Branding versus advertising - are they that different? Or just marketing jargon that would make your basic layman confused with?
These marketing phrases basically make up the whole definition of advertising and putting your product or service up for the market to grab, snatch up or worse, disregard.
Branding would be best defined as the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the company name. It is the initial thought of a consumer who has had the experience of using your product, and whose trust you have gotten and whose belief in your product is lasting. But its that much more effective when your company comes to mind when something is mentioned.
Think of a brand that would easily invoke thoughts, good or bad. Let’s say, “Walmart”. This store that has been present for decades, have consumers constantly coming back, for whatever reason that you can come up with. Now, what do you immediately think of? A staff with a welcoming smile? What about their slogan that has you thinking of them should you see it-‘Everyday low price’?
Let's try a quick quiz; what do you think of when I mention cool car? How about good pizza? Or maybe which is the best shoes to buy? Within your mind you automatically assigned each of those a brand.
That is what branding is all about. It is actually the owning of a specific thought when your name is first mentioned. Now advertising on the other hand, is the promotion of your products. You are able to spotlight, highlight, and create an image should the prospective client see your company name.
